The Competitions Sponsored by the Old Guard will take place during ASME’s E-Fests. The E-Fests are events built around design, advanced manufacturing and robotic technologies. They enable engineering students to expand their knowledge, test and showcase new skills and inspire innovation.
Competitions Sponsored by the Old Guard:
Oral Competition
This competition is designed to emphasize the value of delivering clear, concise and effective oral presentations, particularly pertaining to some sphere in which an engineer is or should be involved.
ASME Elevator Pitch Competition
An elevator pitch is a brief, persuasive speech that you use to spark interest in what you and/or your organization does. Designed to create interest in a project, idea, or product... or in yourself!
What is the Old Guard?
The Old Guard is a committee of experienced ASME Life members dedicated to helping engineering students and early career engineers bridge the gap between college and professional life, and involving them in ASME activities.
Purpose
Be a driving force to help develop innovative programs to engage and improve the skills of early career engineers and student section members as active and productive members of ASME.
Responsibility
To successfully achieve program goals that help retain student and young engineers as active and productive members of ASME.
Functions
The Old Guard Committee through annual financial contributions and volunteer time and efforts, conducts the following programs for the benefit of engineering students and early career engineers, and ultimately for the good of the engineering profession.
