Unlock the full potential of engineering standards with the ASME GD&T Essentials Codes and Courses Package. Gain access to an annotatable version of the Y14.5, Y14.5.2, and Y14.100 standards alongside training courses covering ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and drawing interpretation. This curated combination is designed by experts to empower engineers to learn, apply, and prepare to demonstrate expertise in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

The Y14.5-2018 Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) Overview course allows a high-level overview of the contents of the ASME Y14.5 - 2018 Dimensioning and Tolerancing Standard. The information in this Standard shows standardized methods for applying dimensions and tolerances through a language of letters, numbers, and special symbols.

The Drawing Interpretation (GD&T) course covers the majority of information required to understand basic mechanical two-dimensional engineering drawings.  It includes quizzes, drawing assignments and a drawing packet showing five detail drawings and an assembly drawing for the parts of a Trolley Wheel.

The ASME Y14.5-2018 - GD&T Fundamentals (On Demand) course provides the skills needed to interpret engineering designs and help troubleshoot mistakes that occur during the manufacturing process.  It features video-based sessions and real-world examples taught by ASME’s expert Instructor including several case studies based on industry standards, with example calculations and interactive quizzes.

By participating in this learning path, you will learn how to successfully:

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the fundamental geometric concepts and the topics contained in the ASME Y14.5 Standard
  • Interpret and explain the application of geometric symbols on drawings
  • Explain how to properly select the datum reference frames
  • Calculate the position and profile tolerances
  • Recognize the role that drawings play in product realization
  • Describe the fundamentals of drawing interpretation
  • Identify drawing elements, including part views and sections
  • Describe general dimensions and tolerances
  • Explain how to present surface texture, fasteners and welding

For the full list of learning objectives and detailed descriptions for this learning path, please click on the links to the individual courses above.

Who should attend?
Designers, approvers/decision makers, vendors and suppliers, and personnel who need to read and/or interpret engineering drawings and their intent. Staff involved in engineering, designing, drafting, quality control, procurement, tooling, production, purchasing, costing, manufacturing, routing in the shop, CAD inspection, and those who want to learn more about geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and the ASME Y14.5 Standard.

Course Materials (included in purchase of course)

  • An e-copy of the 400-page GeoTol Pro 2020 book by Scott Neumann and Al Neumann, (for the ASME Y14.5-2018 - GD&T Fundamentals On Demand course), which contains full color graphics and student exercises. (Access is provided for the duration of the course)
  • Access to all course materials listed above via ASME’s Learning Hub. See individual course page(s) for specific materials included in each course.
  • Downloadable and annotatable PDF of the included ASME standard(s) via ASME’s Learning Hub

Course participants are expected to have:

  • Access to computer equipment
  • A reliable internet connection
  • Software to display PDF files (such as Adobe Reader)]

A Certificate of Completion will be issued to registrants who successfully complete each course in this GD&T training learning path.

About the Included GD&T Standards

ASME Y14.5 Dimensioning and Tolerancing Standard

  • The Y14.5 standard is considered the authoritative guideline for the design language of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T.) It establishes symbols, rules, definitions, requirements, defaults, and recommended practices for stating and interpreting GD&T and related requirements for use on engineering drawings, models defined in digital data files, and in related documents.

ASME Y14.100 Engineering Drawing Practices Standard

  • This Standard establishes the essential requirements and reference documents applicable to the preparation and revision of manual or computer-generated engineering drawings and associated lists unless tailored by a specialty Standard. It is essential that this Standard be used in close conjunction with ASME Y14.24, ASME Y14.34, ASME Y14.35M, and ASME Y14.41. Incorporates Y14.42 on Digital Approval Systems.

ASME Y14.5.2 Certification of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Professionals Standard

  • This Standard establishes certification requirements for a Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Professional (GDTP). Certification will be based upon the current edition of the Y14.5 Dimensioning and Tolerancing Standard, its appendices, and the application of its principles and concepts. (GD&T).
