About the ASME Pressure Relief Device Testing Laboratory Accreditation Program

The ASME Pressure Relief Device (PRD) Testing Laboratory Accreditation Program accredits laboratories who conduct performance and capacity testing of pressure relief devices. This accreditation includes the acceptance of “Authorized Observers” charged by the employing laboratory with the responsibility of conducting the test.

Laboratories seeking this accreditation apply directly to ASME in accordance with ASME CA-1, Conformity Assessment Requirements. Due to the special nature of this program, the ASME will, in most cases, utilize an ASME Designated Organization (ADO) to make the evaluation and recommendation of such applicants.

Laboratories accredited through the ASME PRD Accreditation Program operate in accordance with the applicable rules of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section XIII, “Rules for Overpressure Protection”; and ASME PTC-25, "Pressure Relief Devices – Performance Test Code".
