Achievement: To recognize sustained and meritorious contributions to research; education; service; training of researchers or practitioners; overall leadership in advancing the field; or any combination of these in the field of Design Theory and Methodology.
Limitations: An individual may receive the award only one time. This award is intended for ASME members with primary affiliation with the DTM Technical Committee within the Design Engineering Division. Officers of the Design Theory and Methodology Technical or Conference Organizing Committees cannot be nominated to receive the award while they are members of said committee.

Selected By: The ASME Design Engineering Division Honors and Awards Committee.
Selecting Process: Nominations for this award can be made by any member of ASME to the Design Theory and Methodology Technical Committee Chair (DTMTC). The nomination package should include specific details of the nominee'/s contributions to the area of Design Theory and Methodology and a critical explanation of why these contributions are significant enough to warrant the award. This nomination letter should be no more than three pages in length. An abridged three page curriculum vitae should also be included for the nominee, along with three to five letters of recommendation from other researchers in the nominee'/s field. At least two of the letters must come from active members (participating members in attendance at the DTM annual meeting at least once within the past three years). Nominations are evaluated by the Design Theory and Methodology Award Selection Committee consisting of the DTMTC Chair, the immediate past DTMTC Chair, the DTM Conference Chair, and two past winners of Design Theory and Methodology Award selected by the DTMTC Chair, the immediate past DTMTC Chair, and the DTM Conference Chair. In the event that past winners of the award are not available, the DTMTC chair will select committee members from those who have previously served in positions of Technical Committee or Conference leadership. The DTMTC Chair chairs the committee. This award will only be given after the recommendation of at least four of the members of the Design Theory and Methodology Award Selection Committee.
