Welcome to the ECLIPSE Class of 2023-2024

The 2023-2024 Early Career Leadership Intern Program to Serve Engineering (ECLIPSE) is underway. We would like to congratulate and welcome this year's interns.

The ECLIPSE program promotes and recognizes the value of long-term leadership development and diversity among its members. ECLIPSE is a commitment to investing in the careers of high-potential early career members. Interns learn their way around ASME with a dedicated advisor where each intern is matched with a senior volunteer coach within their area of interest at ASME. Interns attend meetings and participate in workshops and training sessions to build leadership and management skills, which will serve them in their professional and personal lives. There is a wide range of opportunities for interns to network among themselves and with senior Society officers to see how they can incorporate the ASME experience into their career development.

We are delighted to welcome the following interns who will serve the various ASME business units:

Louisa Avellar is the 2023-24 ECLIPSE intern for the Public Affairs and Outreach Sector. She is a Mechanical Engineer at SLB, a technology company that specializes in providing oilfield services. Louisa works in new product development on the next generation of Rhino Reamer. She previously worked in Liner Drilling and in drill bits materials technology. Louisa earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology with a focus on fracture in heterogeneous materials. She was a 2015 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program awardee. She earned her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. Louisa is the Vice Chair of the ASME South Texas Section and she also volunteers on the Rabbit Committee for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Through the ECLIPSE internship, Louisa hopes to provide lawmakers with engineering insight into the challenges we face as we work toward the transition to carbon free energy.
