The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is pleased to announce the Call for Nominations for the Board of Governors is now open. ASME is seeking members from a variety of industry programs and academic institutions for the Board of Governors member-at-large.

Annual Meeting Information

The 2023 ASME Annual Meeting, where candidates will be interviewed and selected, will be June 3-5, 2023 In St. Louis, MO.

Candidate Qualifications

The Nominating Committee will consider candidates’ experiences and skills relative to ASME’s leadership model and advancing the goals of the organization. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment and willingness to serve on a working Board and accordingly, to accept assignments related to the work of the organization. The Nominating Committee looks at diversity in representation in the selection of candidates for inclusion on the election slate. The Committee also looks for nominations of individuals with a high level of engagement in academic and professional organizations. The ASME leadership model includes a Board composed of 12 members-at-large who provide governance to the organization while implementing the organization’s strategic plan through a structure of committees.

The Nominating Committee is committed to upholding ASME’s dedication to diversity, equity and inclusion across the organization and fostering an environment that enables members to feel valued, respected, and safe, and developing a diverse and inclusive slate of candidates.

Criteria for developing the final slate:

  • Minimum of two nominations for each open seat
  • ASME Corporate Membership
  • Experience in leadership positions (profit and not-for-profit)

3-year commitment, one year as elect. (2024-2027)

The affairs of the Society shall be managed by a Board of Governors (BOG) chosen from its membership which shall have full control of the activities of the Society, subject to the limitations of the Constitution and By-Laws, Society Policies and the laws of the State of New York. View a more detailed position description.

Instructions

Kindly prepare all necessary documents that will be uploaded prior to opening the on-line Candidate Application. To ensure privacy and confidentiality you will only have access to the application once.

Once the Nominating Committee Staff Support has been notified of a candidate's interest, the application link will be forwarded to the candidate along with the two (2) questions to be completed in the application. Prepare your answers in advance in order to copy and paste them into the application.

The following items shall be uploaded to the on-line Candidate Application. Please refrain from using font sizes smaller than 10pts.

  • Two application question
  • 2”x2” High Resolution Headshot (passport size) (insert a .jpg or similar file, max size 700KB)
  • CV/Resume - Six (6) pages only
