Each sector will be led by a sector council and have the power to establish boards and committees that advise the sector on matters pertaining to specific assignments. All members of the sector are appointed by the Board of Governors and each sector council approves all appointments to boards and committees reporting directly to that sector council. The duties and responsibilities of the sectors shall be as designated from time to time by the Board of Governors. Each sector shall maintain its own operation guide as prescribed by Society Policy.
Standards and Certification
The Standards and Certification Sector, under the direction of the Board of Governors, is responsible for the activities of the Society relating to codes and standards, including related conformity assessment programs.

Technical Events and Content
The Technical Events and Content (TEC) Sector, under the direction of the Board of Governors, is responsible for activities of the Society relating to engaging individuals and groups in advancing engineering skill, art, science, knowledge and practice. This sector is responsible for planning, developing and delivering new technical content in the form of new products, services, networking opportunities, conferences, events and delivery mechanisms across ASME’s market segments.
Public Affairs and Outreach
The Public Affairs and Outreach Sector, under the direction of the Board of Governors, is responsible for the coordinated outreach to industry, government, education, and the public. It is responsible for initiatives that address diversity and humanitarian programs.

The Student and Early Career Development Sector, under the direction of the Board of Governors, is responsible for meeting the needs and providing a voice for students and early career engineers.
Member Development and Engagement Sector
The Member Development and Engagement (MDE) Sector, under the direction of the Board of Governors, is responsible for providing governance for Professional Sections, Student Sections, member development, and the Old Guard Committee. It is responsible for member development and engagement including activities of the Society relating to developing future leaders, liaising with and engaging Professional and Student Sections, developing rules of engagement with other Sectors and the Committee on Finance (COF), providing oversight of training for groups and communicating expectations and opportunities for alignment with the ASME mission and strategy.
