Special Journal Issue on Advanced Numerical Methods and Applications in Marine Hydrodynamics

The ASME Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering is currently accepting manuscripts for a special issue focusing on the topic “Advanced Numerical Methods and Applications in Marine Hydrodynamics.” Authors who are interested in having their manuscripts included in the special issue, to be published in October 2022, should submit their manuscripts by March 31, 2022.

There is an ever-increasing interest to analyze problems related to the dynamics of fluids and their interactions with fixed or floating offshore structures. Continued technological advances in computer power have enabled the development of novel numerical methods and their applications to analysis and engineering design. This has improved our understanding of many complex problems that were previously unsolved. The increasing demands for harnessing marine renewable energy, and the challenges from more extreme weather due to climate change add difficulties and opportunities to this field.

This special issue aims to highlight recent efforts in the development of advanced numerical methods as well as their applications to marine hydrodynamics for a wide range of applications.

Manuscripts to be included in the special issue should concentrate on state-of-the-art numerical methods and their applications, but are not limited to, the following areas: marine hydrodynamics; fluid-structure interaction; offshore wind energy; wave energy; tidal energy; very large floating structures; extreme wave modeling; turbulence modeling; vortex- or flow-induced vibration; and autonomous underwater vehicle hydrodynamics and maneuvering.

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to the journal by March 31, 2022, via Journals Connect at journaltool.asme.org. Authors who have an account should log in and select “Submit Paper” at the bottom of the page.  Authors without an account should select “Submissions” and follow the steps.  At the Paper Submittal page, authors should select “ASME Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering” and then select the special issue “Advanced Numerical Methods and Applications in Marine Hydrodynamics.”  Papers received after the deadline or papers not selected for inclusion in the special issue may be accepted for publication in a regular issue.

The guest editors for the special issue are Jun Zang, PhD, Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, University of Bath, UK, jz235@bath.ac.uk; and Qing Xiao, PhD, Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean, and Marine Engineering, University of Strathclyde, UK, qing.xiao@strath.ac.uk.
