Special Journal Issue on Sustainable and Innovative Use of Emerging Ocean Structural Systems

The ASME Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering is currently accepting manuscripts for a special issue focusing on the topic “Sustainable and Innovative Use of Emerging Ocean Structural Systems.” Authors who are interested in having their manuscripts included in the special issue, to be published in June 2023, should submit their manuscripts by January 15, 2023.

Nearshore and open ocean areas offer abundant energy resources and several novel and unique opportunities to exploit. Innovative offshore structures to harness these resources are being operated, constructed, or are under consideration for future deployment, including those for offshore wind energy generation, aquaculture fish farming, wave energy, floating bridges, and floating solar energy. However, challenges abound for the design, testing, construction, and lifecycle asset management of these emerging structures at scale, when one considers the technical, economic, sustainability, and social issues.

This special issue is intended to address the engineering challenges posed by various emerging offshore structures and to pave the way for thoughtful future development. Leading academics and technical professionals are invited to contribute their reviews or research papers on technological achievements and prospects.

Manuscripts to be included in the special issue will include, but are not limited to, the following topic areas: engineering challenges; novel offshore structures; offshore wind energy; aquaculture fish farming; marine energy; floating bridges; floating solar energy; and modular islands.

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to the journal by January 15, 2023, via Journals Connect at journaltool.asme.org. Authors who have an account should log in as an author to their ASME account.  Authors without an account should sign up for an account.  In either case, at the Paper Submittal page, authors should select “ASME Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering” and then select the special issue “Sustainable and Innovative Use of Emerging Ocean Structural Systems.”  Papers received after the deadline or papers not selected for inclusion in the special issue may be accepted for publication in a regular issue.

The guest editor for the special issue is Zhiyu Jiang, University of Agder, Norway, zhiyu.jiang@uia.no.
