Special Journal Issue on Advanced Energy Systems for Buildings and Cities in the Tropics

The ASME Journal of Engineering for Sustainable Buildings and Cities is currently accepting manuscripts for a special issue focusing on the topic “Advanced Energy Systems for Buildings and Cities in the Tropics.” Authors interested in having their manuscripts included in the special issue, to be published in May 2022, should submit their manuscripts by December 15, 2021.
 
Tropical regions present some of the highest concentrations of urbanized areas of the world. Moreover, tropical areas cover large parts of the global South (Southeast Asia, Central Africa, Central and South America), including portions of densely populated countries like China, India, and Brazil. Megalopolises such as Guangzhou (also known as Canton), Rio de Janeiro, Jakarta, Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Lagos, Calcutta, and Manila are located in this type of climate. Tropical climates, both hot and humid, pose an increasing impact on energy loads for cooling and dehumidification in any building typology. This special issue seeks contributions from both the academic and professional sectors to address the challenge of cooling and managing buildings and cities in the tropics, considering the global warming environment.
 
The special issue will focus on interdisciplinary research in this field and will provide a venue for research findings from a variety of disciplinary perspectives. 
 
Manuscripts to be included in the special issue should concentrate on a range of topics including integration of renewable energy systems in buildings; building performance simulation and certification; high-efficiency cooling systems; ground and air-based heat pump systems; city and district cooling; urban climate and heat island mitigation in the tropics; refrigerants with low Global Warming Potential (GWP); energy optimization in buildings in tropical regions; indoor air quality technologies; and materials and performance for building envelopes in tropical regions.
 
Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to the journal by December 15, 2021, via Journals Connect at journaltool.asme.org. Authors who have an account should log in and select “Submit Paper” at the bottom of the page. Authors without an account should select “Submissions” and follow the steps.  At the Paper Submittal page, authors should select “ASME Journal of Engineering for Sustainable Buildings and Cities” and then select the special issue “Advanced Energy Systems for Buildings and Cities in the Tropics.” Papers received after the deadline or papers not selected for inclusion in the special issue may be accepted for publication in a regular issue.
