Alquist 3D CEO Zachary Mannheimer talks about the advantages and limits of large-scale 3D printers and equipment used in building affordable housing.
3D printers are getting bigger and are being incorporated into a wide range of industries. Housing is one of them. Zachary Mannheimer is co-founder and CEO of Alquist 3D, which is building concrete homes in Greeley, Colo., with 3D printers. Besides working with Habitat for Humanity to build affordable housing, Alquist 3D also is partnering with a local community college to build a curriculum to teach best 3D printing practices. He talked with ASME about the need to stand up a 3D-printed housing industry and build a workforce, along with the current limits of large-scale 3D printers and associated equipment.
