Donald N. Zwiep Innovation in Education Award
This ASME Engineering Education award recognizes Mechanical Engineering Departments who have demonstrated exemplary contributions to the advancement of mechanical engineering pedagogy.
Donald N. Zwiep, a pioneer and champion of project based learning in mechanical engineering, showed the value of real-world projects and collaborative learning as an exceptional pedagogy. A long-serving mechanical engineering department head at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a dedicated ASME member and past president, he was uniquely positioned to strengthen the bonds between the Society and the engineering departments through outcomes-based accreditation, project-based learning, and engagement of both students and faculty in their professional society.

Form of Award: | $4,000 Honorarium, a plaque mounted certificate of recognition, and reimbursement of up to $750 in travel expenses to participate in the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Education Leadership Summit and awards ceremony; waiver of Summit registration fee. |

Limitation(s): | Applications must be from department heads/chairs of mechanical engineering departments that have an ABET-accredited degree program or have a program accredited by an international organization recognized by ABET by virtue of formal Mutual Recognition Agreements or Memoranda of Understanding. |
